The "right" way to do the job is remove the valve cover, timing belt, then cam cap. The cam cap has a bunch of allen (hex) and Torx Plus 40 bolts that need removal. Once this is done the plug can be removed. WebMar 30, 2024 · The cam carrier leak is essentially a valve cover leak. Subaru uses sealant for this and the failure seems pretty common. I noticed some oiling on the motor on my '12 before 50K, but never bad enough to drip. My mechanic also alerted me about it. Another reason to never use the dealer for service and they won't point out warranty work.

WebOct 8, 2024 · The leak is definitely coming between the shaft and the seal. It's a 1 piece seal and I used oil to install the 1st seal and a very thick grease to install the 2nd. I was not able to see any visible damage to the shaft. I wonder if I should go to toyota and try the manufacturers seal.
